About us

At Maharlika Bears, basketball is more than just a game—it’s a pathway to confidence, character, and community. We give young players the opportunity to grow into the best version of themselves through high-quality coaching, positive competition, and a whole lot of fun.

Our coaching philosophy is simple and powerful: ONE TEAM. ONE GOAL. We believe basketball is at its best when it’s played together. Success isn’t measured by individual stats, but by effort, trust, and how players uplift one another on and off the court. Every drill, every game, and every huddle reinforces teamwork—sharing the ball, communicating, defending together, and celebrating each other’s progress.

Our coaches create a supportive yet challenging environment where players learn accountability, resilience, and respect. Each athlete is encouraged to give their best, support their teammates, and understand that when one player improves, the entire team gets stronger. Through this team-first approach, we develop not only smarter basketball players, but confident young people who value commitment, unity, and shared success.

Beyond skills and drills, we are committed to shaping well-rounded athletes who live our core values of respect, diligence, and excellence. We teach players how to compete the right way, take pride in their improvement, and carry these lessons beyond the court.

Just as important is our culture. Maharlika Bears is a welcoming, family-oriented community of players and parents united by a genuine love for basketball. Whether your child is new to the game or ready to take the next step, they’ll find encouragement, structure, and a strong sense of belonging here.

Training sessions run every Sunday at Dural Recreation Centre. If you’re passionate about basketball and want your child to learn, grow, and thrive in a positive environment, Maharlika Bears is the place to be.

2026 NAIDOC Tournament

The Maharlika Bears proudly took to the court at this year's NAIDOC Basketball Tournament, joining teams from across the community in a weekend that celebrated basketball, culture, respect, and togetherness.

Across every age group, our players represented the club with pride, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship, embracing every challenge and competing with confidence against quality opposition.

Our U12 Boys B, made up predominantly of 9 and 10-year-olds, enjoyed a remarkable tournament run, reaching the Semi Finals before falling to a bigger, older, and stronger team. Their courage, teamwork, and determination were exceptional, and the future is incredibly bright for this talented young group.

The U14 Boys A finished second in their pool, pushing an all-Representative Division 1 side right to the final whistle. Their fearless approach and willingness to compete against one of the tournament's strongest teams reflected the character of this group.

Our U14 Boys B Teal also finished second in their pool, winning three of their four games. As a predominantly bottom-aged team, they demonstrated maturity beyond their years and proved they can compete with anyone.

The U14 Boys B White finished third in their pool, recording two wins from four games. Their selfless ball movement, disciplined execution, and relentless effort showcased the significant growth they have made throughout the season while matching the intensity of many representative programs.

Our U16 Boys B produced another outstanding performance, finishing second in their pool with three wins and one draw, including a draw against the eventual pool winners. They narrowly missed a Semi Final berth on points differential, highlighting just how competitive they were throughout the tournament.

While we're proud of the results, we're even prouder of what they represent.

Many of these players first joined Maharlika Bears with limited game experience and a passion to learn. Through consistent training, commitment, and a team-first culture, they are now confidently competing against representative-level opposition with resilience, discipline, and belief in themselves.

The NAIDOC Tournament was another reminder that success is measured by more than wins and losses. It is about growth, character, respect, and the relationships built along the journey.

Congratulations to all of our players, coaches, volunteers, and families for representing Maharlika Bears with pride throughout the weekend. We also extend our sincere thanks to the tournament organisers and everyone involved in delivering another fantastic NAIDOC Basketball Tournament.

We look forward to continuing our journey together as One Team. One Family.

2026 AAU Autumn Showdown

Our 12U and 14U Boys proudly represented the club at the AAU Autumn Showdown, with both teams delivering strong performances throughout the tournament.

The 12U Boys finished with an impressive 3-1 record, narrowly missing out on a place in the championship game after a hard-fought loss in the qualifying rounds. The team displayed outstanding teamwork, resilience, and continued growth, competing with confidence against quality opposition.

The 14U Boys matched that achievement, also posting a 3-1 record. They competed with intensity and determination throughout the weekend, falling just short of the finals despite an excellent overall tournament performance. Their commitment on both ends of the floor reflected the progress they've made this season.

While neither team reached the final, both groups represented the club with pride, sportsmanship, and a relentless competitive spirit. We are incredibly proud of the effort shown by our players and coaches and look forward to building on these performances in the tournaments ahead.

2026 COASTAL CLASSIC

We couldn’t be prouder of how our U16 and U14 Boys represented us at the 2026 Coastal Classic Tournament. This event continues to be one of the strongest development tournaments on the calendar, and our boys embraced the challenge with maturity well beyond their years.

Across the weekend, both squads competed against a mix of metro and country representative teams and consistently showed what our club values most — effort, resilience, teamwork, and respect for the game. While they may not have worn a rep badge, their approach, intensity, and composure reflected a standard that matches any representative program. They played with pride, backed one another, and refused to take a backward step.

The Coastal Classic was another important step in the journey for these young athletes and a strong reflection of the direction our club continues to move in. We’re proud of our U16 and U14 boys and excited about what lies ahead as they continue to grow, compete, and represent our club with class.

NSW AAU SPRING HARBOUR HOOPFEST

We couldn’t be prouder of our 12s Boys for their outstanding performance at the NSW AAU Spring Harbour Hoopfest, finishing 2nd overall in a highly competitive field.

This group showed exactly what our club stands for — heart, hustle, and togetherness. Every game was played with intensity, selflessness, and belief in one another. They competed for every possession, lifted each other in tough moments, and represented the club with class on and off the court. Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.

This tournament is a glimpse of what’s to come. More events like this are on the horizon in 2026, and we’re excited to keep building these opportunities for our athletes.

NAIDOC 2025 (AIS Canberra)

Our teams had an incredible showing at the 2025 NAIDOC Tournament, proudly hosted by the Warriors Basketball Club in collaboration with Basketball ACT. We entered two teams into the competition, and both went undefeated through the round games and semi-finals. It was an exciting and proud moment for our club to see both teams advance all the way to the Finals!

U12 Boys were the CHAMPIONS after a fierce battle against Big Max.

U14 Boys were the RUNNERS UP in a tough run against Shmozzles.

We're already looking forward to next year's NAIDOC Tournament and are aiming to send as many teams as possible. The excitement and success from this year have only fuelled our enthusiasm to come back even stronger!

Summer Season 2024/25
